BROKE - Horizon 2

$1,200.00

30” x 30”

Mixed Media and currency

HORIZON invites viewers to embark on a journey of imagination and introspection. Through the use of various mediums, BROKE recreates the feeling of daydreaming while gazing out of a window and admiring the vast expanse of the horizon. In doing so, HORIZON draws a parallel between the literal horizon and the metaphorical horizon of our goals, futures, and imaginations. BROKE’s work encourages the viewer to keep their feet on the ground while allowing their mind to wander way up in the sky. Just as the horizon represents endless possibilities, his art is a catalyst for contemplating our desired destinations and finding inspiration to strive towards them.

Artist Bio:

BROKE is an art project created by Venezuelan artist, Jose Tomas Garcia. In this project, he explores the use of Venezuelan Currency as an art medium to depict the socio-economic issues of Venezuela, a country deeply affected by hyperinflation and corruption. Through BROKE, Garcia is capable to create scenarios where Venezuelan Currency has more value as an art material than as a currency, exposing the absurdity of a situation where the monetary value of a country's currency has lost its real-life purchasing power. The project narrates a poignant story of a country whose socio-economic complications are a direct result of misadministration and tyranny. With BROKE, Jose Tomas have achieved poetic justice by using a material that has lost its value in the hands of corrupt officials, and transforming it into an art material that conveys a powerful message. The project not only sheds light on the struggles of Venezuela's citizens, but also highlights the resilience and creativity of its people in the face of adversity.
